Common questions about the formulas
What does salicylic acid do in a face wash?
Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). Because it dissolves in oil, it can work inside the pore, loosening the oil and dead skin cells that clog it. In a wash-off cleanser it has a short contact time, which makes it a gentle way to use it every day.
How much salicylic acid is in a typical acne cleanser?
Over-the-counter acne products commonly use salicylic acid at 0.5% to 2%; that is the range the US FDA allows for acne products sold without a prescription.
Why are there beads in the gel?
The beads are jojoba esters: soft, round wax beads that melt as you massage. They polish the skin gently instead of scratching it like crushed shells or plastic microbeads.
Is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate safe in a face wash?
It is a common cleansing agent in rinse-off products. Some people with very dry or sensitive skin find sulfate cleansers drying, which is why this formula pairs it with the milder cocamidopropyl betaine plus glycerin and aloe vera. If your skin feels tight, use it once a day and moisturize.
What do ceramides and hyaluronic acid do in the moisturizer?
Hyaluronic acid holds water in the top layer of skin, and ceramides are lipids that help that layer keep its moisture in. Together they make skin feel hydrated and comfortable, not tight.
Where does the SPF 25 come from?
Two UV filters: titanium dioxide, a mineral filter, and octinoxate, which absorbs UVB, the rays behind sunburn. SPF 25 is the manufacturer’s rating. Apply generously and reapply every two hours in the sun.
